Maybe my generation missed out on all the good stuff. Then again, maybe not. On the way home from the movies tonight, as I drove along an empty highway lit by the sunset behind me, my .mp3 player was knocking out some Doors, and it inevitably came across “Five to One,” which isn’t one of[...]

“It is usually taken for granted that you dream of something that has made a particularly strong impression on you during the day, but it seems to me it’s just the contrary… Often it’s something you paid no attention to at the time — a vague thought that you didn’t bother to think out to[...]

A one-month whirlwind has taken my life from Non-Survival Trait to a place that is just nearly the opposite. An innocent, compassionate comment on this blog from an anonymous woman on the other side of the nation gave me a smidgen of hope and encouragement. Within days, she had wedged herself into my life so[...]

Correct me if I’m wrong; but the click of a camera’s shutter can’t really steal your soul. Sure, I know some aboriginal tribes in various places in the world have held this belief, but I’ve been surprised lately at the increasing number of modern, civilized Americans who hold a similar belief. As a photographer, I’m[...]

Here’s a subject I will almost never attempt to tackle, whether verbally or in print, but it’s something I must mention. And mark these words carefully: I am a human being. This is the race/species to which I belong. I have always failed to understand it any other way. By the same token, you are[...]

For those who wondered, my new Canon Digital Rebel XT (SLR) camera is doing fine. I gave it its first real field test today, at Seminole (Okla.) High School’s annual pre-season scrimmage. The camera performed beautifully, and you can see my first sports images here. See some of my other photography on my website

Meeting Her…. Or Him

The method by which a man and a woman meet has changed, imperceptibly, over the centuries. I guess it wasn’t difficult in pre-historic times, when a tribe/clan/family had only a few dozen members. When a male was born, it was pretty much predetermined with which female he would eventually be partnered. Occasionally, the small pack[...]

“There was love, then only confusion I am the victim of my own delusions” I wrote those lines more than eight years ago, at 3 a.m., while slightly intoxicated in a Little Rock nightclub. I wrote them on a cocktail napkin, where many of my poems were birthed in those days. But today, for some[...]

Well! I must thank everyone who sent me positive comments on my photo (some by email, and some as comments on this site.) Thank you. I had no idea. It was meant to be an “ambiance” photo to go along with the post. And, as it always does, Life begins to throw the “change-up.” Not[...]
