June 2014: Hottest Ever

Remember last month? When I mentioned that May 2014 was the hottest May ever recorded? Well, those infernal climate scientists are at it again, claiming with no evidence* that June 2014 was the hottest June ever recorded.

(* Turns out they actually have plenty of evidence, such as “temperature records” and “thermometers”.)

The ocean temperature in June was the hottest average ever recorded, regardless of month.

Of note:

* All 12 of the world’s monthly heat records have been set after 1997, more than half in the last decade, and two of them in 2014.

* All the global cold monthly records were set before 1917.

* Global temperature records go back to 1880 and this is the 352nd consecutive hotter-than-average month.

“This is what global warming looks like,” said University of Arizona climate scientist Jonathan Overpeck in an email. “Not record hot everywhere all the time, but certainly a reflection that the odds of record hot are going up everywhere around the planet.”

Or you could keep reading articles like this one in Forbes, which say the Earth hasn’t warmed in 17 years. Global warming can’t hurt you if you don’t believe in it.

  1. The fallback position for the deniers is: yes, global warming is happening, but it’s natural and it’s not man’s fault. Your view?

    • Wil C. Fry says:

I noted in 2012 that the real question isn’t whether the Earth is warming (it is), but (a) whether we’re causing it, (b) whether we can change it, and (c) whether we should change it.

In my followup entry, I concluded that mankind is indeed responsible for it, and broke down the sources of the greenhouse gases.

A related entry covered some of the dissenter/denier arguments.
