Worked on potty training today; several successes, a few accidents. RLF only wore a diaper to the library, for a nap, and then to bed at night. Because of a training this week, MF’s schedule is odd. Today was the first Monday she’s been home in months. I saw Iron Man 3 in the afternoon.[...]

Took two diaper boxes full of books to the Killeen library to donate them. They said whatever they don’t use in circulation will be put into their semi-annual book sale. I’m really glad we got library cards and are using them. When I think of all the years that my books went unused on my[...]

Forgot to mention yesterday; MF and I watched “Machine Gun Preacher” on DVD; it was thought-provoking and disturbing at the same time. (Story of a former American drug addict and criminal who becomes a Christian, cleans up his life, and then decided to build a home for orphans in Sudan; he ends up defending them[...]

Took our family Christmas portrait today. That took about 30 minutes of Rebecca-wrangling. You’d think after I’ve taken 10,000 (estimated) photos of her, she would be okay with having her photo taken. If we got one usable picture today, I’ll be happy.

Today, Rebecca played at our community playground in the morning and again in the evening. In the afternoon, Mommy took her to the Carl Levin City Park in Harker Heights. Each time, she played with other children very well.

Cool again this morning (mid-60s). (Later a high of 89°F.) Perhaps it was this change that inspired Rebecca’s huge achievement. She walked all the way to the playground without help. (When I called to tell my wife, I said “by herself”, and my wife asked “alone?” in a terrified voice. I meant without a stroller[...]

Unlike many parents these days, we agreed — before even getting married or considering children — that we wouldn’t take our baby or child to a movie theater (1) until the child was old enough to sit through a movie and enjoy it without crying or yapping like a miniature dog, and (2) unless the[...]

93°F. Rebecca played in her inflatable pool in back yard first time. Really loved it. I saw The Avengers in the afternoon, only 2nd movie I’ve seen in theater since RLF’s birth. Enjoyed it. (Saw non-3D version.) Put paving stones from driveway to exterior faucet; took about 90 minutes. Came up 2 short; will finish[...]

(I’ll assume you already read about Day 1) On Friday (July 16), Marline and I kept Misha and Kyla company while their parents took care of some car-related and moving-related business. Kyla is six but can read like an eight-year-old. Misha is one, and is working on walking and talking. Several times, we saw her[...]
