2016 Galveston Vacation

MRB enjoy the surf in the shallow waters near the beach (Copyright © 2016 by Wil C. Fry. Some rights reserved.)   We enjoyed Galveston so much last year that we decided to do it again. In fact, we decided that last year, on the way home from Galveston. Early this year, when we received[…]

2015.06.08-12: Galveston Vacation

The last photo we took in Galveston (Copyright © 2015 by Wil C. Fry. Some rights reserved.)   In the middle of M’s 17-day stretch of paid leave, we took a five-day jaunt to Galveston, having enjoyed last year’s trip to Corpus Christi Bay so much. M booked the hotel back in February when she[…]

Played outside a bit in the morning. For once, BWF was the reason we came inside (usually it’s his sister). Inside, both were good most of the day. I played hide-n-seek with RLF indoors — she’s finally able to count aloud to 10. (She’s been able to count to 10 for a LONG time, but[…]

2014.08.20-22: Dad’s 70th Birthday Trip

In 47 hours, we drove nearly 800 miles, attended two birthday parties, went swimming, toured two houses, reconnected with nearly 30 people, met one new person, made over 200 photos, and slept a little bit too. Here’s the story, as brief as I know how. (Images will follow in a later entry, I assume.)

Killeen-To-Seminole-County Trip Times (UPDATED 2016.05.08)

This is a list of all the travel times for our Killeen-to-Seminole-County runs, including links to the relevant blog entries. I’ll update it each time we make a trip to and from Killeen (Texas) and Seminole County (Oklahoma).

2014.06.19-23: New England Baptism Trip

As many of you already know, my wife and I took our children to New England for our son’s baptism (along with two cousins) and to visit family. The details of that trip are contained in this entry. The images from the trip are already uploaded and formatted (all in this set on Flickr). If[…]

(I’m generalizing when I say “New England”; we obviously didn’t drive the entirety of the region.) Nearly stopped in The Big Dig tunnel (Copyright © 2014 by Wil C. Fry.) On Monday, June 23, as we rode the Comfort Inn shuttle bus to Boston’s Logan airport, my wife said something derogatory about the roads in[…]

Lights Off

Not long ago, I mentioned that Killeen had a high accident rate (hearsay), and today I found out why. People don’t turn on their headlights when it’s raining. Despite arguments to the contrary, it is state law in Texas, according to the state’s driver manual (.pdf). The manual says you have to have your lights[…]

Death By Texting

I’ve blogged about the dangers of texting while driving (Cell Phone Followup, We Failed Ourselves, A Good Start, and Texting While Driving Equals Stupid), but until now I was just dealing with numbers, studies, facts and figures. But, according to today’s Seminole Producer, a recent traffic death in Seminole County was a direct result of[…]

Cell Phone Followup

Published on: 2009.07.21

The New York Times did another story about cell phone use while driving, based on recently released government studies (which had been covered up for several years). The story had this to say: “Research shows that motorists talking on a phone are four times as likely to crash as other drivers, and are as likely[…]

After reading this New York Times article, I’m ashamed to admit I’m from Oklahoma. The states that rejected any efforts to limit distracted driving this year include Oklahoma. “I’m on the phone from when I leave the Capitol to when I get home, and that’s a two-hour drive,” said Tad Jones, the majority floor leader[…]

First Day at Work

Somehow, I knew that I wouldn’t blog as often, once Marline moved here, and it’s happened. But today, she’s out of the house… It’s her FIRST DAY AT WORK. It’s odd for me. Since she moved here on May 31, I haven’t been in my apartment alone more than 20 minutes at a time (and[…]

Saturday was tough, but we made it through, thanks to Marline’s help on Friday night. In the evening, we went to my parents’ home, to do some laundry, have dinner, etc. On Sunday, we drove to Oklahoma City. I should say, Marline drove to Oklahoma City. That’s right, folks. I sat over in the passenger[…]
