Friday (30): BW finally became adept at climbing to RL’s top bunk. He first did it a couple of months ago, and has done it a few times since, but always very slowly and only when M or I were right there. Today, he began doing it rapidly and when no one was watching. Each[…]

All of us went to Story Time in Harker Heights this morning, ate at McD’s afterward. RL wouldn’t climb the PlayLand thing by herself, so I went up with her (no one else was out there). It was actually pretty cool. I don’t remember what the McDonald’s playgrounds were like when I was a kid,[…]

83°F today. Believe it or not, Jan. 2012 and 2013 each saw highs warmer than that. However, the HLA (high-low average) for today was warmer than either of those days. Earlier this month, it seemed we were on track to have the coolest January since we moved here, but the last week has bumped us[…]

It was darn near hot today: 80°F in early afternoon. Weird, watching the snowfall in the northeast while in such a separate climate. It’s a big country. Afternoon: I took RnB to neighborhood playground while M went grocery shopping. We arrived back home at the exact same instant she did. RL: 90% BW: 40% —[…]

Saturday (24): Frost in morning, 30s; warm (60s) afternoon. MRB to playground in afternoon. RL put on a “big dance show” for M & I, incorporating ballet, lyrical, modern, and other dance styles. It was very beautiful and lasted more than 10 minutes. Sunday (25): BW had a splinter in the palm of his hand[…]

RL: 90% BW: 70% The WiFi range extender has already shown its benefits. For the first time in months, I didn’t have to switch to 4G just to load a web page. For the first time ever, I was able to load/play a YouTube video on my phone. Also, battery life was greatly increased. In[…]

MRB to Story Time, despite rain & coolness. (I know people in other parts of the world go about their business when it’s rainy and cold, but here we usually don’t have to, since rain is so rare. But this month it’s been rainy as often as not, so we’re getting back into the practice[…]

Marline wears my letter jacket (Copyright © 2005 by Wil C. Fry.) MRB to Story Time in the morning. Lunch at Subway. After BW’s nap (RL skipped hers), M took the kids to the Killeen Mall. RL bought a Frozen umbrella with her own money (first time she’s paid for something). M bought herself Christmas[…]

Fourth day in a row over 70°F; each was the warmest day of the year so far. Today we hit 76°F. Went to Purser Family Park in the afternoon; kids played for a while. BW wouldn’t stop putting rocks, sticks, dirt, and wood chips in his mouth. RL was well-behaved and actually played (she usually[…]

Over 70°F both days (40s for lows). Sunday afternoon, MRB went to Carl Levin city park in Harker Heights, which is right behind IHOP. After 45 minutes there, M called me to suggest dinner at IHOP (staring at the sign probably helped), and I said I would meet them at the park. I collected my[…]

Broke 70°F today; now THIS is more like it, the Central Texas “winter” that I’ve grown accustomed to. (We’re still on track to have the coldest January since we moved here.) Kids played outside in the afternoon. M took RnB to our neighborhood playground. RL: within sight of 100%. She’s been excellent these past few[…]

Warm in the afternoon: 60s. I took RnB outside to play a while. RL: 98% BW: 60%

Finally took down Christmas decorations/lights/tree today. It had been a little cold/wet for me to attempt it before — all the boxes were in the crawlspace above the garage, which isn’t insulated. Today, we got close to 60°F with a lot of sun, so we went for it. RL, like last year, was very helpful,[…]

BW went to the bathroom (#1) today. Big step. (Edit: and then again the next morning.) I am very ready to never buy diapers again. RL composed a song (music & lyrics) with her toy piano (Christmas gift). A few days ago, she told me she wanted to be an artist when she grew up.[…]

RL picked up one of M’s library books (a novel) and said she would read it: “This is a story of a girl named Rebecca. She lived in Holland. There was a dragon — a big monster — and it came down and ate her up. Her Mommy and Daddy and big brother, whose name[…]

2015.01.12.MO: More Imaginary Friends

From a midnight high of 45°F, we dropped steadily into the 30s throughout the day. RnB were playing happily in their room when I awoke; that’s my favorite sound to hear when I become conscious in the morning. Both ate well, played well. As the day wore on, though, BW increasingly missed his Mommy. It[…]

RL skipped her nap again, second day in a row. This time, she began faltering right after supper. By bath time, she was a mess — emotional wreck, walking around in a stupor. She fell asleep immediately upon being put in bed — was out before 20:00. BW had a two-hour nap, the longest in[…]

9th, Friday: RnB had troubles in the morning. If either of them played with something, the other tried to take it. They did this repeatedly for three hours or so. I was finally able to convince them to play separately. Remainder of the day, they were okay. At bedtime, neither was tired. RL stayed awake[…]

Cold all day (21-37°F), windy, cloudy. No precip. RnB played well with their toys. BW’s favorite game is “chase”, in which he runs away from RL — or anyone else who will chase him — and then occasionally turns around to tackle whomever is chasing him. Lunch: pancakes, sausage, eggs Afternoon: solo grocery trip Supper:[…]
