Unseasonably warm, even for here: 79°F (low of 65°F). But despite the past few days of warmth, this was still the coolest November of the five Novembers we’ve seen in this house (October 2014 was the warmest of the five Octobers). Today, RLF got her notepad and pencil and worked at the dining room table[…]

RLF: 95% — B: 55% Forgot to mention a few days ago, BWF can now take off his shirt, pants, and socks. The only thing he can put back on is the socks. Moved the futon from master bedroom back into RLF’s room. BWF will take naps in there from now on. This is because[…]

2014.11.28.FR: Blood Work Results

RLF was 100% today, the first time in a while, even including the afternoon/evening. She was helpful, obedient, and played without being urged. She also practiced counting, recognizing letters, and building with blocks. BWF was maybe 50% — the best he’s been all week. His eating improved dramatically over the past few days. Today, he[…]

2014.11.27.TH: Actual Thanksgiving

My wife worked. Fortunately, she felt much better than yesterday. RLF was also better, physically. In every way, she was 100%… Until lunch. She cried through lunch, unexplained. After her nap, she seemed fine, but fell apart again about suppertime. BWF cried almost all day, with a few breaks during which he unplugged lamps, tried[…]

2014.11.26.WE: Early Thanksgiving

As we often do, we celebrated Thanksgiving a day early, since my wife works tomorrow. I was up to 95% health-wise, while my wife came down with whatever I had on Monday (and apparently what BWF had the day before). She had a low-grade fever, chills, and more. RLF had only bathroom-related symptoms of slight[…]

I was better today, maybe 60% (I would classify yesterday as 25%). Just to be careful, I ate lightly: a banana for breakfast, chicken noodle soup and saltines for lunch, beef stew and cornbread for supper. Today was supposed to be our Thanksgiving (MF is off Monday through Wednesday this week), but my wife decided[…]

I went to the clinic at 06:30 to have blood drawn for tests, in advance of next week’s physical. Not long after I got home, MRB went back to the same clinic for BWF’s flu shot (we had discussed all going together, but I couldn’t wait that long without having coffee or something else that[…]

RnB and I all woke up about the same time. BWF was crying, standing in his crib, covered in nastiness. I will NOT miss this part of my children’s early years. His sheet, mattress pad, and blanket were souped up pretty good too. Parenthood isn’t for the weak of stomach.

BWF still seemed sick: he wouldn’t eat solids, except a few bites here and there. Took an early nap (10:00), then settled down for another nap while RLF napped. After MF got home, he had a liquid blowout — to put it politely — and seemed to feel better but still wouldn’t eat (except nursing).[…]

BWF was sick in the morning. Vomiting was his only symptom — and very rare for him. After a couple of loads of laundry, he climbed into my lap and fell asleep very early. After a two-hour nap, he felt fine. RLF skipped her nap. After lunch, I took them in the wagon to the[…]

2014.11.20.TH: Notes

I showed up at the clinic 07:30 for blood work, but they told me my doctor hadn’t put in orders for it. Sigh. The next time I can have it done would be right before my scheduled physical, but they wanted the results to be in before my physical. So I rescheduled my physical for[…]

2014.11.19.WE: Notes

I went with MRB to Story Time in Harker Heights in the morning, where 75 or so kids heard music by Joe McDermott, an Austin-based children’s musician. It was an enjoyable time. RLF is more like me — sit and watch, absorbing it — while BWF was more participatory. Afterward, lunch at KFC. At home,[…]

Note: Today (2014.11.18), I uploaded my 39,000th image to Flickr (not counting a few that I deleted over the years). I joined Flickr in September 2005, which was 110 months ago. That makes an average of 354.54 per month, or 11.82 per day. Following are the six best images from the past six days:  […]

I did call a doctor, as both my daughter and wife suggested. Earliest appointment at the clinic was for tomorrow at 16:00. There was some confusion in setting up the appointment since my insurance is under my wife’s name. It appears the entire computer system is designed with “Only the Man can have insurance through[…]

2014.11.17.MO: Notes

26°F first thing in the morning, but bright and sunny and 40s most of the day. That was our lowest low since March 3, and the coldest November temperature of the six Novembers we’ve lived here. Kids played well in the morning. BWF was especially active and loud, chasing his sister and trying to do[…]

2014.11.16.SU: Notes

40s most of the day; cool front at 15:00 or so, dropping us to 32°F by midnight. The high-low average was a full thirty degrees cooler than the same day last year. I used to joke about “so much for global warming” on days like this, but it was a joke — because I’ve always[…]

I learned today that my wife’s cousin Jean-Daniel’s college football team won the NEC Championship yesterday. It’s the second year in a row the Sacred Heart Pioneers have won their conference championship, and they earned an automatic berth in the FCS championship bracket. Jean-Daniel had five tackles (four solo) in the game, including the tackle[…]

Overcast and 40s (°F) all day (not 32°F low as predicted, sigh). A little mist in the afternoon, unmeasurable. BWF was fussy most of the day, but he ate well and napped normally. MF told me he’d been awake nearly three hours during the night, which might explain his fussiness, or both could be explained[…]
