(Copyright © 2013 by Wil C. Fry. All rights reserved.) It was cloudy outside and kept wanting to rain but never did, most of the day. There were a few raindrops late morning, and a few more mid-afternoon, but not enough to measure in a rain gauge. The afternoon cleared off and it was 80°F[…]

At H-E-B (supermarket) this morning, Rebecca shouted “Eagle!” out of nowhere. She was pointing at a helium-filled balloon shaped like a parrot. It was funny to me, because there are parrots in most of her books and many of her shows, but no eagles. Where would she have picked up the word eagle? I don’t[…]

Frustrating morning with RLF. She’d say she wanted to play hide-n-seek; I would hide and then she’d just ignore me. She’d ask me to read a book, choose a book and bring it to me; I’d start reading it and she would walk away. This went on all morning. After nap time, she was much[…]

Visited the library again this morning; both MF and RLF were finished with their books (I’m still working through one of mine). Then groceries after that. Afternoon: the girls went to Burlington Coat Factory (Rebecca: “Mon, Daddy! We go mah!” [C’mon, Daddy. We’re going to the mall!])

Rebecca was fussy in the morning but fine all afternoon/evening. She ate some pizza with us at supper time. She now seems aware that she needs to work on the “k” sound. She tries to say candy, collar, chocolate. At supper, she made up a song: “Boom, boom. Yeah, yeah.” She would sing that part,[…]

Took the Sedona in this morning to fix two slow-leaking tires. It comes equipped with a low tire pressure indicator, which seems to work. One tire (front left) took a few weeks to lose pressure, while another (right rear) needed air every few days. They found a small nail in the right rear tire and[…]

Here’s the last photo we took while Heather, Mark, and Josh were here (it was supposed to be Rebecca with the boys, but she wouldn’t sit with them, so MF had to help): (Copyright © 2013 by Wil C. Fry. All rights reserved.) *** Well, we didn’t freeze last night, but we got within a[…]

Freeze warning for tonight. Just a few days ago, they were predicting tonight’s low to be 40-something, now they’re saying upper 20s. This always happens a few days after we switch out the winter comforter for a summer quilt (which we did a week ago), or right after I start wearing shorts for the first[…]

Quick grocery trip early. Rebecca reminded the cashier that she needed “Buddy Bucks” (the store hands them to kids and there’s a prize machine) by saying “Where my buh buh?” (Where are my Buddy Bucks?) She got four instead of the usual two, and got plenty of points plus an instant winner. Pretty good day.

Rebecca had another really good day. In the morning, she helped me pull weeds from the front & side yards, carrying the bucket from spot to spot as I directed. When I mowed in back, I asked if she wanted to stay outside: “I don’t want to” (her new favorite phrase). She stayed inside and[…]

Forgot to mention yesterday: Rebecca showed me that she had a new tooth — lower left molar. We hadn’t seen it come in, so we don’t know when it did, but I’m writing it down as “March ?, 2013”. It’s her first new tooth since July (8 months ago); she now has 17 teeth; only[…]

Heather and the boys followed us to Ikea in Round Rock this morning — their first time in such a store. Heather found a few things she needed for her house, while MF and I bought items as well. (On the way there, we were stuck in traffic for 30 minutes; it turned out that[…]

I took the van out & filled up with gas (17.7 mpg on our second tank, almost all of it city driving, and including the one-hour drive through the safari yesterday at about 2 miles per hour), then washed it — a pathetic attempt to remove cow & camel slobber from the day before. By[…]

Visited Topsey Exotic Ranch & Drive Thru Safari with Heather & the boys. We saw zebras, buffalo, a camel, goats, elk, and a few others. In the petting zoo, Rebecca bravely walked among the goats and sheep, though she occasionally hid behind my legs when a larger animal approached her. She hand-fed several goats. She[…]

Mowed/edged. Vacuumed. Laundry. Rebecca didn’t take a nap today — fourth time in her life if my count is correct. And she was fine until about 5:30 p.m., when we made a grocery run. She fell asleep just as we got back home. I couldn’t wake her up. MF finally woke her up after about[…]

Rebecca watched and enjoyed Wreck-it-Ralph in the morning; we made a trip to Lowes for spade drill bits and Rebecca found a pink tape measure she liked ($3). She’s been borrowing my tape measures for months, so I figured it was time she had her own. Afternoon: I finished sanding the boards I’d cut yesterday,[…]

Morning: measured and marked boards while RLF played in the back of the minivan Afternoon: sawed & sanded boards while RLF & MF went to Walgreens. They came home with “Ribbit”, which is what RLF named the rubbery frog that MF bought her for $3. Evening: talked with across-the-street neighbors, who were preparing for a[…]

Morning: got library cards at the Killeen Public Library nearest us. Checked out one book for me, three for Rebecca. MF and I had meant to get cards earlier; just never got around to it. The process was quick, the library was decent. There were lots of kids books, especially Curious George. It was like[…]
