Cool (upper 60s) and cloudy all morning; 70s in the afternoon. In the afternoon, Rebecca walked to our neighborhood playground (3/10 mile) three different times, though we ended up carrying her most of the way back each time. She also pushed her small stroller to the mailbox and most of the way back. She loved[…]
It was 72°F from morning till night and rained lightly almost all day. Just before bedtime, the wind picked up and we dropped into the upper 60s.
In the morning, Rebecca helped me work in the back yard. I aerated the entire yard. Each time I hit a rock — which was more often than I expected, Rebecca would hear the sound and bring me the little shovel. She’d watch carefully as I dug out each rock and then carry the rock[…]
Ikea in the morning; ate in the store. Picked up a teapot for my wife, 2 Bygel rails, 1 Grundtal rail, and a few other items for me. The rails are now attached to my new garage shelves, where I can hang things from them. Also bought silicone pot holders. They work better than expected.
Like the past few days, our temps ranged from low 70s to low 90s today. Looks like we’re back in the napping habit. She’s still eating well. Today had meatloaf for supper.
Monday (24th), Rebecca put herself down for a nap at 11;15 a.m. — in her own bed (a first). When I started to close her room’s door, she jumped up and shook her head. I asked her if she wanted me to leave the door open, and she said “Yeah, yeah”. So I did. She[…]
Again, there was no nap today. Evening was tougher than yesterday; everything is frustrating when you’re really tired, so I tried to be patient. But I’m also going to try to force a nap tomorrow. She thought she was ready to go napless, but Daddy doesn’t agree. Eating is still going well enough, so I[…]
(I’ve edited my birthday entry to include photos of my gifts.) Today, Rebecca attended another party, this one for a two-year-old boy up the street (the brother of the three-year-old whose party she’d attended previously, mentioned here). But the bigger story for us is that she didn’t take a nap today.
Thanks, everyone, for the birthday wishes. I’ll now quit telling people I’m “almost 40” and go with “in my 40s”. Even when speaking (but especially when writing) I won’t include the erroneous apostrophe that so many people add — and it really bugs me. I blame the military communiques that were in ALL CAPS for[…]
We only get so many birthdays with zeroes in them… This is my fourth birthday with a zero. Wow.
Today is my wife’s birthday; she got two DVDs and a CD and turned 31 — she still can’t believe it. She met me in her early 20s; she’s now been married to me for 1/5 (20%) of her life. The downside of any of her birthdays that ends in “1” is that the next[…]
Decent weather (60s – 80s). Morning walk to playground. RLF eats well, plays well. Afternoon movie for me, shopping for my girls. Supper: Subway; they’ve newly renovated to triple the size of the store and now are open 24 hours. RLF plays outside in evening. We’re teaching her Hide ‘n’ Seek and foot racing.
Cool & cloudy in the morning; sunny & warm (mid-80s) in afternoon. Rebecca ate well today; a rare occasion.
As usual, if I mention in the blog that Rebecca wasn’t playing or eating, she’ll change her behavior the next day — almost as if she can read it with her mind. (If I don’t mention it, the behavior pattern will continue.) :-)
We had one of those increasingly familiar mornings in which Rebecca didn’t play at all. She did help me empty the dishwasher, and she put towels into the dryer as I handed them to her from the washer, and she pushed the basket of dry towels into the living room for me to fold —[…]
Light rain early; cool (upper 60s) & cloudy all day. Windows open from dawn till dusk. Afternoon walk — Rebecca made it all the way to the playground, including a detour around one of the ponds. Morning trip to Burlington Coat Factory; my wife picked up some shoes & clothes for Rebecca. Blackberry cobbler (yum!)[…]
I really need to blog each day, even if only a few words. I already can’t remember what we did on Wednesday (Sept. 12). I do remember that we hit 95°F for a high, and that we stayed in the house most of the day. (One image after the jump)
Wow, my life is so different than it was 11 years ago today… I was working in a jeans factory in a small, broken town, living alone, using a slow version of dial-up internet. I was doing okay, sure, but… That version of me feels like a completely different person. It was before I’d heard[…]
I figure I might as well post this now… I don’t expect anymore 100-degree days this year. This year, we saw 100°F or hotter on 38 days, more than half of them in a 21-day streak from July 28 through Aug. 17.
Another beautiful day; 62°F in the morning, a brief high of 93. Rebecca urged me on another walk, this time trying to leave before breakfast. I made her eat, and then we left. (Copyright © 2012 by Wil C. Fry. All rights reserved.)
