I’ve updated my previous entry to add photos of the garage shelf rails… 101°F today… Rebecca played independently today for the first time in a week — we’d been having issues with that … She also watched some football with me in the afternoon; really enjoyed it. She can signal “touchdown” and gets excited no[…]
After a nice two-week respite, we hit 100°F again today, our 32nd time this year. (By this time last year, we’d had 69 such days.) I finished the four rear rails for my garage shelves and painted over the lines I’d drawn on the walls to mark studs, etc. (2 images after the jump)
All day, Rebecca wanted to read books. She didn’t play with a single toy, except when I specifically ordered her to do so and pointed out a specific toy… She put herself down for a nap at the odd hour of 10:30 a.m. — while Mommy was washing dishes and I was talking to her[…]
* Painted Rebecca’s room three coats of “Pink Stork” (Olympus, satin finish, zero-VOC) without issue — other than my own fatigue. * Rebecca & my wife spent nearly two hours at the neighborhood playground, part of it playing with a 2-year-old black/Japanese girl. * High was 98°F * The last three days, Rebecca’s been eating[…]
Today I mowed, while Rebecca pretended to sweep up the clippings. (She actually did sweep a whole pile of them into the puddle made by the neighbor’s sprinkler; I had to wait till later in the day, when it was dry, to finish the job.) She and I then went to Home Depot to get[…]
I first mentioned the reel mower on July 31. Since then, my wife was convinced by neighbors whose lawn is now looking spectacular after switching to one. Today, I bought one at Lowes while waiting for paint to mix (for Rebecca’s room). (Copyright © 2012 by Wil C. Fry. All rights reserved.)
Some thoughts from the last couple of days: * Started mapping out the studs on the garage’s north wall for the big upcoming shelf project. Discovered that the studs aren’t a uniform 16 inches apart. Most of them are, but because of the length of the house, two studs are only 7″ apart, while the[…]
Rebecca ran for the first time today (the technical difference between walking fast and running is that when you run both feet are off the ground at the same time). She was racing with two boys down the sidewalk — one of them is four and one is three.
The last few nights, it’s been cooler outside than inside — something we’ve never experienced in August since moving to Killeen. One morning it was 70°F when I woke up — darn near jacket weather.
[I was incorrect in a previous post; not sure why. Aug. 17 is the actual date we got the keys to the house (not Aug. 18). So this post is even later than I’d previously thought.] Wow. Two years. That means our house isn’t new anymore. It means we’re two years older than the spry,[…]
Well, I didn’t get to do a two-years-in-the-house entry, but I do have a few things to say about that. Maybe tomorrow. It rained most of the night last night. Today, our high climbed back to 92°F, and it was very, very humid (80-90% most of the day). Rebecca and I went grocery shopping in[…]
Today is our two-year “house-iversary”, which I plan to mention more tomorrow. It was a busy day.
102°F today, but we were only above 100 for a couple of hours. Might get some rain tonight. This morning, I took Rebecca to Lowes, where we spent more than an hour. She had a great time. In the afternoon the three of us looked through some model homes for another builder. We do this[…]
So far, I’ve been happy with the minor improvements I’ve made to our house: top shelf in hall closet, wall-to-wall shelf in laundry room, top shelf in master closet, adjustable height spice shelf in kitchen cabinet, side shelves in office closet, and the most recent: small wall shelves in garage corner, just to name a[…]
We still broke 100°F today, but it was different. It was windy all morning and didn’t get above 90 until after 11 a.m. Also, it tapered off more quickly in the evening. Much nicer. I could feel our hot streak coming to an end. Supposedly in a couple of days, we won’t see 100 anymore[…]
I’m usually announcing milestones for my daughter, but today I announce a milestone for my wife: she swam for the first time.
I’ve updated my previous entry to include photos of the new shelves.
This morning, I mowed the back yard and one side. It’s about all I can do before Rebecca starts getting lonely. Then she played in the garage while I finished installing the shelves that I’d begun the night before. (Pictures coming, maybe tomorrow.)
I forgot to mention it, but yesterday was the 22-monthiversary of Rebecca’s birth. It’s hard to believe she’s almost two years old.
106°F on Friday (Aug. 10). I bought 1×10 boards and shelf brackets to build garage shelves. Also bought 1×3 board to put side shelves inside the cabinet under my wife’s sink.
