“Wee, wee, wee” means “wiggle, wiggle, wiggle” in Rebecca’s language. She learned it from a song on TV. Which brings me to an interesting discussion point: Whether TV actually “rots the brain” as so many used to say when I was a kid.
Today, I taught Rebecca “A, B”, the first two letters of the alphabet. She says it “aybee!” Mommy didn’t believe me until I told Rebecca to tell her… and she did. :-) That’s a cool feeling. (1 image after the jump)
Sorry for the really short posts the last few days. We’ve been dealing with Rebecca (aren’t we always?) and the changes in her life. Some kids make all their changes gradually, kind of oozing from one stage in life to another… Rebecca seems to do most them suddenly. (3 images after the jump)
Light rain, 65-75 degrees all day. Mall-shopping, got “Dora the Explorer” bath toys for Rebecca, who suddenly learned the word “Dora” today, apparently recognizing the character from the TV show.
Sorry nothing written yesterday. Rebecca in foul mood on and off. (We had a “40% day”.) Today: mowed, vacuumed, ate Ryan’s for lunch (buffet), walk, saw more bluebonnets, leftover fried rice for supper. Drove to Sonic for a shake. Weather: perfect. low 60s, high 70s, partly cloudy.
Weather: 55°F this morning, 81 by afternoon. Very little breeze. Rebecca spent a good portion of the day trying to put pants on by herself. She kept getting her pajama bottoms out of her clothes hamper, sitting on the floor and sticking one leg in. She never got more than one leg in. Every time[…]
Last night was much better. Rebecca only woke up once (I think). Today, she came out of her room with arm outstretched, holding a tiny, shiny object. She was walking quickly but carefully, making a beeline toward me. From a distance, I thought it was a dime (10-cent piece) and worried that one had fallen[…]
Weather: 45°F this morning, 81°F this afternoon. So it IS going to warm up after all… Rebecca screamed a bunch in the night. I think I got four hours of sleep; my wife got maybe three. Can’t tell if it’s teething pains or something else. Remember, she was sleeping through the night at 6 months[…]
By the time Rebecca went to bed, she didn’t even notice her ant bites anymore, and they were gone by this morning. She gets this from me, not from her mother. My wife will sport marks and bumps from bug bites for weeks. On me, they’ll go away within hours. For the record, I’ve been[…]
At 17 months and 10 days old, Rebecca got the first bug bites of her life — from fire ants at the playground. We were about ready to head home, when we noticed she suddenly got quiet and was standing very still. But she was wringing her hands.
We did indeed have thunderstorms last night — all night. Rebecca slept in our room. The downside is that it turned cool again; we’ll see low 40s tonight. Don’t get me wrong; I love the cool weather. I’m just thinking of the lawn. The water’s good for it, but Bermuda won’t grow when it’s cool.[…]
Gotta shut down the computer soon… Severe weather moving in. This morning, Rebecca was playing with a flashlight (she’s always loved flashlights, and we have a few cheap LED lights she can play with). She was holding it lens-down and slightly pointed backward. When she saw the circle of light on the floor just behind[…]
Rebecca’s Education My daughter is much like her mother in that she prefers to figure things out for herself rather than be taught something. This is admirable to a degree, but means they both suffer from IRTLATMSS (“I refuse to let anyone teach me something Syndrome”), a syndrome that I just made up. (1 image[…]
Weather: Today was the third or fourth day in a row with temps staying between 66 and 78°F — very nice. We’ve had the windows open throughout each day. (2 images after the jump)
Today, Rebecca walked up to me — I was sitting on the floor — then touched my nose. “No ooze”, she said. Seeing my startled expression, she giggled and clapped. “Nose?” I said. She touched her nose and clapped again. I asked about her eyes, and she covered her eyes. When I said “mouth”, she[…]
Yesterday, I fully weeded the north side, raked out some dead Bermuda strands and mowed it close. (Bermuda grass prefers to be mowed high and often, but I’ve been starting out each spring with a low setting and then move up from there as the grass grows.) Today I did the east (front) and south[…]
Rebecca last nursed on Tuesday, March 13, at 17 months and two days old. My wife had planned to wean her during this month, ending on or before the 18-month mark, but Rebecca took herself off yesterday, switching to full-on cow’s milk and regular food. There’s a chance of course that it’s only a temporary[…]
Today’s picture word was “someone else”. Since most of my pictures are of Rebecca, and Marline comes in at a distant second place, I took “someone else” to mean me. So I got in front of the camera for this one. The camera is mounted to a Mannfroto Magic Arm, which is attached to playground[…]
I built a fort for Rebecca out of dining room chairs and a couple of blankets. She loved running through it, but wouldn’t stay inside for more than a few seconds. Today was our first non-rain day since … Well, I think we had four or five rainy days. Our high was 81°F. (2 images[…]
Weather: 50°F this morning, and rainy. I caught a break in the clouds at 8:23 a.m. (see photo below), then it rained again until about noon. By early afternoon, it was sunny and in the 60s. We hit 70 by the time my wife got home, and not a cloud in the sky whatsoever. (3[…]
