Have you heard? Once again, Exxon-Mobil set the all-time record for most profitable quarter in the history of Earth (breaking their own record). In case anyone’s curious, Marline and I only bought gas from Shell during our recent trips. (Like that makes any difference…)

Saturday morning (July 26, 2008), Marline and I left home in her Buick at 9:48 a.m., heading north on State Highway 99. It took 38 minutes to get to Stroud, where we took a bathroom break and I got a Dr. Pepper. From there, we headed northeast on Interstate 44, going through Tulsa. Our next[...]

For the third day in a row, we hit 100 degrees in Seminole, Okla. But today, we were surprised with a cool front at about 6 p.m. that brought a few drops of rain and a 20-degree drop in temperature! Very nice.

Fixed?

It’s possible that our A/C problem is fixed. Yesterday evening, our landlord came by to tell us that he’d “taken care of it.” He said when he went into the neighbor’s apartment, that the air conditioner’s filter was missing — perhaps the last tenants took it with them when they moved? Anyway, he replaced our[...]

Today was our first 100-degree day in Seminole, Okla., this year. Thankfully. We remember well the years when 100 degree (Fahrenheit, obviously) days began in June. Two years ago, when Marline moved here, the day we got off our plane — returning from the honeymoon, it was 100 degrees outside in early June. This year,[...]

On my other blog, I’ve posted recently on what I think is America’s greatest political issue, the growing polarization of our people into opposing camps. But I’ve also listed other big issues and asked for your thoughts as to what are the most important problems in our nation today. Feel free to read it, and[...]

Gas or Rent

For the first time in my life, gasoline costs as much per month as does rent. I checked our bank account ledgers to see how much we’ve been spending on gasoline in the last month, and learned the horrifying news. I won’t list actual figures, because rent and gas are both lower here than in[...]

While vacuuming and working around the house this morning, Marline and I had the TV on in the background. Our only channel is local FOX-25 (no one else has broadcast strength to reach our antenna, for some reason). For about two hours, the only thing on was infomercials about fitness equipment. We left it on[...]
