I woke this morning to a lightly falling snow. It was, surprisingly, only 19°F — I’d hear that it doesn’t snow when it’s that cold. Still, it kept falling, most of the day, a fine, powdery, dry snow.
— As the year 2000 draws to a close, it is only natural that I reflect on the past 365 days. I shall not, at this time, make arguments as to whether 2000 is the 1st year of the new millenium or the last year of the old (it’s the latter); it is, for the[…]
After waking, I brought in some firewood for Granny, then helped her put away some extra mattresses we had used during the holidays. The day outside was crisp and clear — about 32°F, with 5-10 mph winds.
Woke at 5:55 a.m., and found that our water was running! JHF must’ve fixed it during the night. Praise the Pickle! My lunch having been prepared the night before, I packed it, warmed up the VW, and drove to work. The roads were clear, although G’s driveway & part of the Wrangler parking lot were[…]
NEWS: Census report: U.S.A. now has 281,421,906 people. Texas, Arizona, & Georgia each gained two House seats; NY and PA each LOST two seats in the House. Oklahoma lost one seat.
We awoke to no power, which we expected, but now the telephone is dead as well, so we can no longer contact others in our area. The mail or newspaper didn’t come yesterday or today. M&Z&I walked over to the trailer, to check the cat’s (Bugga’s) situation, and to turn on the furnace in case[…]
Woke up to no electricity; apparently, the ice accumulated enough to break the power lines. Oneita said 6:50 a.m. was when our power ceased. The ceiling in the main bathroom was dripping. We put a bucket underneath the drip, and Jerry and I climbed the six-foot ladder to look through the hatch into the attic.[…]
I awoke at 9 a.m. or so, & MDZ were already here. The others awoke soon after, and wandered through the kitchen in varying degrees of wakefulness, grasping whatever their fingers could find for breakfast. Succeeding that, we filled up nearly the entirety of the living room, and Zane passed out the presents, as instructed[…]
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) Nora & I went to Cassandra’s church to see their Christmas program & sat w/Joshua. Nora drove us there in G’s car. After lunch, D & Z came over & walked w/Nora & I down to the lakes. On the Lower Lake, I walked out on the ice about 20[…]
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) I woke up at 7:10am, did some stretches, 20 pushups & some 25lb arm curls & tricep extensions. I was the 1st person awake, so I built up the fire & ate a banana for breakfast, along with a Dr. Pepper. Nora & Oneita went to church (they are still[…]
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) I only worked from 7am – 930am (it was 12° when I left for work). I checked my emails & played my “Relaxation & Thought” CD for D. Since I got off work so early, I went w/D, Oneita & G to OKC. I bought the World Book Encyclopedia 2001[…]
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) Work: found out that we’re working tomorrow, so I didn’t go to OKC w/everyone tonight (so I’d be able to get to sleep early.)
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) We had our Xmas dinner @ work. In spite of a 45 minute lunch and leaving @ 2:15, I managed to get 47 bundles done. I stopped on the way home @ Homeland, to get lunch meat & deodorant.
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) Today started off badly; I was fumbling around, stuck in my dream world, but after I got to work, I sped through it just fine, getting 41 bundles by 2:00, when we left (I had more than anyone else.) I stopped by M&D’s storage & got my heater (much quieter[…]
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) Well, I put the boxes back in the shed & worked hard, but didn’t get my heater. Today, temperatures neared 40°F, but it’ll get down to the low 20s tonight. The ice is still melting in the daylight, and it makes the driveway awfully muddy.

(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) I’m still writing in this notebook (why?) habit, I guess… Today, in the morning, temperatures reaching the mid-30s, but by 9:30am, the wind was gusting to 35-40 mph & it snowed for 30 minutes, lightly covering the sheet of ice that covers the land. I “burned” my first CD, putting[…]
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) After work, I met D @ Wal-Mart. Bought the HP computer, as described above for $798 (plus tax). Got home & found that the monitor’s plastic casing was cracked. Took the whole d— thing back to f—ing Wal-Mart & waited in Xmas lines again, to exchange the computer for another.[…]
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) No precipitation; low wind; high near 32°F. Still icy on most streets, but highways are clear. Lake surfaces frozen; thickness about one-eighth inch to a half-inch. I’ve been using G’s small space-heater in my bedroom, since it’s the farthest from the wood stove — it’s helped a lot. In anticipation[…]
(Copied from “Darker Blue Notebook”.) I barely made it to work; it was snowing & sleeting. Only 4 barcoders showed up, but some pressers helped us. After work, D, Z, & I went down to the lakes, but saw no beavers. Then we took the 12-gauge, .410, & .22 rifle down to the gravel pit[…]
