106°F on Friday (Aug. 10). I bought 1×10 boards and shelf brackets to build garage shelves. Also bought 1×3 board to put side shelves inside the cabinet under my wife’s sink.

Bathroom shelves: Our master bath vanities are six inches higher than standard (we paid extra for that because “standard” is too short), which means there’s quite a bit of space available above all my wife’s hair products, lotions, makeup remover, curlers, nail polish, etc. Since the sink/drain/pipes hang down in the middle, you can’t just add a middle shelf. But it’ll be a simple matter to add three-inch rails along each side, on which she can set quite a few products.

Garage shelves: See the images below. The back (house-side) wall of our garage has little space for shelves, because of the water heater, Manablock plumbing system, and electric breakers (not pictured). But I plan to put six shelves down the side of our water heater nook. My poor drawings below only show five, but you get the idea. (Click through to see them larger on Flickr.)

Rebecca seems to be in a two-day cycle when it comes to overnight sleeping and afternoon napping. One night she’ll sleep so soundly and well that she’s good to go the next day. This means she won’t nap until later and usually has trouble getting down for the nap, but will usually nap a long time. So that night, she’ll have trouble getting to sleep and won’t sleep soundly all night. This means on the second day, she’s tired all morning and will take an early nap, exactly 90 minutes. By evening, she’s exhausted and will sleep soundly all night long.

And then the cycle repeats itself. This began a week ago or so, and doesn’t seem related to whether my wife’s at work. But it’s easier going for me if I know what to expect.

Friday night, she went down easy and slept soundly all night. So Saturday (Aug. 11), she wasn’t ready for a nap until after 1 p.m. and had trouble going down. Now that I recognize the cycle and now that I know which part of it she’s in, I can plan ahead. :-)

However, today’s nap was only 60 minutes, which meant she was very ready to go to bed tonight… Maybe her short-lived cycle is breaking. We’ll see.

103°F on Saturday.

Saturday afternoon, I installed the aforementioned side shelves in my wife’s vanity. I took pictures. I’ll post them soon (tomorrow?)

Standard bathroom cabinets and kitchen sink cabinets have always had too much wasted real estate in my opinion. Sounds like you are righting the situation. Garage shelves are always a good thing. :)

We’re getting a nice break now with highs in the 80′s. I don’t know if it will last long but I’m enjoying it! Hope you guys–and our family in Oklahoma–get a break from the heat soon as well.

Mom: I completely agree… Of course, if you’re willing to pay (I’m not) for non-standard vanities, they have some really excellent storage solutions… I know yours are better than the norm…

Cassie: We’re supposed to get a break in about a week. I’ll believe it when I see it. I think they always put “rain, cooler” about seven days off, just to keep us hoping. :-)

LOL Well good luck! We had some rain for a week on and off, then it cooled off after that. The last couple of days have been beautiful.
