July 11, 2012: Unexpected Visitors

Morning: grocery shopping, play. Afternoon: checked out some nearby model homes.

My wife got a call from her good friend Valentina as we left one model home: she said she’d almost to missed her flight. “To where?” my wife asked. “To come see you guys,” Val replied.

We’d been expecting Val and her daughter next week, due to a complete mistake on our part. For more than two months, Valentina had been planning on flying out from New York to visit us, and we’d been looking forward to the visit. All this time, we’d had the wrong dates on the calendar, though we had an email from her with correct flight times and dates. Somehow, we’d just missed it.

So after the phone call we burst into gear, returning home. I’d put off mowing for a few days because of the rain, so our grass was unkempt. I started mowing while my wife began cleaning inside and preparing Rebecca’s room for guests. When I got done mowing (finishing the last bit of edging in the rain), we took turns vacuuming, which Rebecca is finally learning to accept. I took a shower and left.

I got gas and supper at Sonic on the way out of town, arriving at Austin’s airport just after Val’s plane landed, meeting her and Vicky at baggage claim. Vicky fell asleep on the way back to the house. We got home a few minutes after 10 p.m.; my wife said Rebecca had just gotten to sleep — she’d not wanted to sleep in our room.

After a bit of talking, we all went to bed around midnight.

CORRECTION

This post has been edited to correct the spelling of Vicky’s name.

    Enjoy your visit.

Thanks Shari! Oh and Wil it’s Vicky not Vickie. I know I will never live down this mistake. Oh well. ;-)

  3. Cassie says:

    Close call!

  4. Sherry says:

I’m still laughing — sorry. :/ But Marline is so “on top” of everything, I just can’t imagine this happening, I have to laugh when I think about it.
Hope you do enjoy your visit. And please send some of your rain this way.

  5. Wil C. Fry says:

@Marline: Thanks! I’ll fix the error.

@Mom: Me too. :-) (And of course, I have to take about 10% of the blame; and I’m also very detail oriented.)
