I lived in an abandoned JC Penney store located deep in bayou country in Louisiana, miles from the nearest road. The store was built in log cabin style, inside and out, but was as large as any major department store. It was on stilts, like any good structure built near the bayou, and had a wide covered porch on all four sides, with wooden ramps going down into the brush and swamp.
When the store had been abandoned (apparently very recently), all the merchandise was left inside and the power was left on.
My friend from Ada, Richard Barron stayed in the store as well. Our companions (and this is the really silly part) were Xena and Gabrielle, stars of the 1990s TV show Xena: Warrior Princess. I can’t remember if the people in my dream were the actors (Lucy Lawless and Renée O’Connor) or the characters.
It seems like quite a bit happened each day, but I can’t remember specifics. I do remember that each evening we’d have supper and drinks around a bonfire near our store/home. I remember the feeling, the ambiance, the atmosphere of those four-person gatherings. We all got along very well, trusted each other completely, finished each other’s sentences.
I also remember noticing that it wasn’t humid, which is odd for that part of the country.
At some point, Richard and Gabrielle had a child. A very pale, redheaded male child that began talking and holding conversations within minutes of his birth. Xena began pestering me about having children.
(After waking, I told my wife about the dream. Her only reaction was an incredulous: “You cheated on me with Xena?”)
